The Yo Yo Diet - Why So Many People Do it and Keep Getting Fatter

First of all, there is a need to establish the difference between losing fat and losing weight. Weight loss can come from many factors, which are from water, muscle and what we all want to target, Fat.
However most diets only focus on losing weight, not fat. Have you heard of the Yo yo diet? Well the yo yo diet has been around for years. You see one of your friends get really skinny really quickly and then all of a sudden, they balloon back to where they were before. What's worse is most of them get even bigger than they were before. How do they do it? They literally starve themselves and eat very very little. Some people call this the anorexic diet.

So why does this happen you ask?

Well it's pretty simple. Following many diets in the pass, they focus on cutting down what you eat. Also they get you on an exercise program. So what happens here? Well because you're on a diet and aren't getting enough food, the first thing your body does is to break down your muscle for food. Coupled with the exercise program, you lose even more weight but it's mainly muscle and water.

Muscle and its important role

Before I get to the next point I have to point out that muscle burns a lot of calories during the day, even while you're resting. So now, after going through all that torture of dieting, feeling hungry and exercise, you've finally reached your weight loss goal. Hooray! Time to celebrate and relax. This is when the reverse effects of the yo yo diet come to light.
You have reached your ultimate goal, so you go back to your old ways of eating. The problem is that today you no longer have all that muscle you had before. In fact, you're fatter now percentages wise then you were before you started the program. So what does this do for you, it makes you put on more fat than ever before because your body just isn't capable of burning of that fat with the huge lack of muscles.
Now don't get me wrong here, it doesn't mean that you have to be HUGE like a body builder to lose body fat. In fact, more women are victims of this yo yo diet as compared to men. There must be a balance with all things. The faster you get yourself started on a proven program, the faster you'll get your results and keep it.
